Jacob Musgrove led the Jefferson High School Swim Dragons during their meet last week with more than 300 swimmers from 14 schools in Hall, Forsyth and Barrow county high schools.
Musgrove finished in second place in the 100-yard freestyle event and fourth place in the 100-yard breaststroke. (His times were unavailable at press time.)
After three meets, Musgrove and Camille Porter have cleared hurdles most competitive swimmers try to achieve at the high school level.
The two swimmers have posted qualifying times for the GHSA State Meet in February, with the girls’ freestyle relay team zeroing in on a time that could advance it, as well.
Porter delivered a 26.50 time to qualify her for the 50-yard freestyle event at the state meet. Musgrove, meanwhile, cleared the 500-yard freestyle qualifying time of 5:20.
The girls’ relay team is made up of Heather Perry, Camille Porter, Avery Mixon, Victoria Swaim and Fallon Bell. The time they have to meet or better to advance is 1:53 for the 200-yard freestyle relay and 4:12 for the 400-yard freestyle relay. While the team competes in both events, the swimmers are closest to achieving a state qualifying time in the 200-free.
