The Bethlehem Christian Academy Lady Knights got to experience the taste of victory in their season opener last week.
BCA held off a late rally by The Howard School to record a 37-32 win. Leading 30-19 after the third quarter, the Lady Knights had to hold on in the final minute.
Sarah Beth Adams and Ravyn Harrison both scored eight points for BCA. Maggie Barth finished with five points.
“It was a fun one,” said Lady Knights coach Mike Elmankabady. “I’m glad we got the win. We missed two many free throws but we played good, physical, fundamental basketball.”
For the season opener, BCA’s coach said there was plenty of positives to take from the victory.
“I am proud of the way we ran our offense,” Elmankabady said. “We do need to work on beating the pressure, but we responded well. I liked having a balanced scoring attack. We are complete team, not a team with one superstar.”
The Lady Knights returned to the court the following day but fell to Westminster in Watkinsville 36-16.
Adams led the team with seven points while Ariel Jackson scored four. Harrison added three points while Barth had two.
It was a tough night offensively for us,” Elmankabady said. “We will go back to work.”
BCA rebounded Tuesday with a 28-23 win at Brandon Hall. Adams scored 11 points to lead the Lady Knights while Harrison finished with six. Elmankabady said it was a “total team effort.”
The Lady Knights will face a tough challenge Friday when they venture to Eatonton to battle Gatewood at 6 p.m.
