Knights race out to fast start

Through two games this season, it has been so far, so good for the Bethlehem Christian Academy boys basketball team.

The Knights defeated The Howard School 56-27 last Thursday. Twenty points from Niko Mailloux and 15 points from Travis Burchfield helped lead BCA to the season opening victory.

“It’s a good way to start,” Knights coach Mark Barth said. “It wasn’t easy, but we worked some of the rust off and hopefully we can continue to improve. It was good to compete against another team after several weeks of practice.”

Mailloux and Burchfield also had five rebounds and three steals each.

Also contributing were Chance Spraitlin (six points, two rebounds), Kevin Green (four points, four assists), Chandler Garmon (four points, three rebounds), Ben Morgan (three points, four rebounds) and Jacob Fincher (two points, four rebounds.)

Josh Estes had two boards in the win.

The Knights returned to the court less than 24 hours later and recorded their second win in as many games with a 30-26 victory against Westminster on the road in Watkinsville.

Burchfield led the team with 15 points while Mailloux scored 11.

“We battled tough,” Barth said. “It’s a good start to the season.”

The Knights improved to 3-0 for the season Tuesday with a 46-16 road win against Brandon Hall. Spratlin scored 11 points to lead BCA.

BCA will face Gatewood, a perennial state power, Friday on the road before traveling to Monsignor Donovan in Athens Tuesday.
