Lofty goals set for new WBHS swim season

The team has grown since last year, with 27 members, up from 20.

“We have several strong returning boys, some promising new male swimmers and a growing girls team,” Blevins said.

Returning swimmers for WBHS are: Mitchell Buttler, Kristina Brown, Katie Ginsberg, Jared Glenn, Ryan Hendrickson, Alex Hentenaar, Ian Hentenaar and Dakotah Kay.

For Ian Hentenaar and Dakotah Kay, this season will be as full-time competitors after competing as sub-freshman last year.

“Last year they were eighth graders and could only compete as exhibition or in middle school events,” Blevins said.

Other returning swimmers include, Skyler Lowe Paul King, Nelson Lofton, Alex Martinez (after a season off of swimming), Quinn McDaniels and Ryan Miller.

“We are hoping to have Cailtin Connell and Anna Dean back after their fantastic cross country season,” Blevins said.

Newcomers for the 2012-2013 season include: Elim Gibson, Moriah Gibson, Nikki Gilmer, Kayla Meredith, Amber Palermo, Wynnie Sauls, Kayci St. Clair, Timmy Villamater, Candace Williams along with eighth graders Bailey Brock and Hannah Smith.

“The boys have a lot of great depth and we have enough boys to compete with two strong relays and have alternates to easily fill in,” Blevins said. “The girls are definitely growing and are going to be focusing on swimming consistent personal bests. The numbers have grown so that we will be able to swim both A and B relays in each of the three relays that are swam.”
