Wildcats post impressive numbers in 2012

Several players had standout seasons, but many of those players were seniors and will have to be replaced for 2013.

Senior Eric Tanner rushed for 1,085 yards on 172 attempts with 10 touchdowns to lead the team’s Wing T-based offense. Zay Henry added 749 yards on 96 rushed with seven touchdowns. Monterian Smith, who joined the team mid-season, added another rushing threat with 366 yards on 52 attempts with two scores. Henry and Smith were also seniors this season.

Senior quarterback Clint Ashe passed for 732 yards and six scores. His primary target was senior Jermaine Smith, who caught 30 passes for 474 yards and four touchdowns.

“We appreciate everything our seniors did for our program,” Davis said. “It’s not just what they did this season but throughout their careers. We will miss each one of them. Now we, as coaches, have to go to work to figure out who can replace their contributions.”

AHS will continue competing in Region 8-AAAAA next season as it hopes to return to the postseason.
