JACKSON County’s rally out of the losers’ bracket Friday at the state Elite Eight in Columbus fell just short.
The Panthers — making their first trip to the quarterfinals in 11 years — posted wins over Jackson High School (3-2) and Pike County (2-1) to advance to the Final Four but lost to Ringgold 3-2 to end the season.
Jackson County opened play in Columbus with a 4-1 loss to Chapel Hill Thursday.
The Panthers enjoyed a memorable season in its second year under Chessie Laird, tying for the regular season region title, winning 8-AAA tournament, winning at least 20 games for a second straight year and fulfilling its goal of advancing to Columbus.
