Once again, Bethlehem Christian Academy football coach Don Garmon said his team left too many opportunities on the field.
As a result, the Knights saw their venture into region play end with a 20-12 road loss to David Emanuel last Friday in Stillmore. BCA will continues its Region 1-A battles this week when the Knights host John Hacock.
“We wore them out between the 20s,” Garmon said. “We were unable to finish drives, however. We get into the red zone four times and got no points.”
The BCA coaches are having to make adjustments offensively with Danny Sceviour out for the season with a torn ACL.
Chandler Garmon connected with Niko Mallioux on two scoring plays Friday but the points weren’t quite enough.
Graham Doolittle was effective in the backfield with P.J. Klein limited to defense because of injury. Kevin Green, also battling injury, was able to see a handful of snaps on offense.
“By the fourth quarter, we were tired,” Garmon said. “They were able to make some runs on us. Their quarterback had an excellent game as they would use a straight quarterback sweep several times for positive gains.”
The BCA coach said he is not using injuries as an excuse.
Mailloux received a blow to the sternum early in Friday’s game, which limited his play on defense.
Matt Masters had a strong effort with an interception and fumble recovery.
“Matt was in the backfield all night,” Garmon said.
Offensive coordinator Lance Fendley said the team missed too many chances to add additional points to the scoreboard.
“Last Friday was a tough loss for us,” Fendley said. “We felt like we were the better team and we felt like we had chance to make a statement and a chance to get off to a good start in the region. Offensively, we have to be much better in the redone.”
