THE 10TH running of the annual MainStreet Newspapers meet is ahead Thursday with both in-county and out-of-county teams slated for the event.
The meet, hosted again this year by Jefferson High School, is set for 4:30 p.m. at Crow’s Lake.
The varsity boys will run at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity girls (5 p.m.) and a combined junior varsity race (5:30 p.m.).
East Jackson, Jackson County, Gainesville and East Hall, in addition to Jefferson, will vie for this year’s championship. Jefferson Parks and Recreation will also enter a team.
“Our home course is 95 percent true cross country running,” Jefferson cross country coach Katie Sellers said of Crow’s Lake. “It is a beautiful course and really pushes the runners to the maximum due to the terrain. My runners truly enjoy running this course and are really looking forward to hosting a meet at home again this year.”
East Jackson, Jackson County and Jefferson have already competed against each other in multiple meets.
“I am looking forward to seeing Gainesville and East Hall, as we have not directly competed with either of those teams yet this season,” Sellers said.
