The Winder-Barrow High School softball team will begin the postseason Tuesday, Sept 25, against Cedar Shoals in an opening-round game of the Region 8-AAAAA tournament.
WBHS is the No. 5 seed while Cedar Shoals enters the tournament as the No. 8 seed. Tuesday's game is scheduled for 7 p.m. This round is single elimination.
The winner will advance to face Apalachee High School in a best-of-three series with a trip to the state tournament at stake. A doubleheader will be held Friday at 5 p.m. and 7 pm. A third game, if necessary, would be Saturday at noon, also at AHS.
Coach Monty McClure's WBHS team enters the postseason led by four seniors including Marissa Merrill, Kirsten White, Kylie Smith and Ashley Waits.
The Lady Bulldoggs finished the regular season 8-11-1 overall and 5-3 against region foes. Loganville is the No. 1 seed followed by Heritage, Flowery Branch, Apalachee, WBHS, Salem, Gainesville, Cedar Shoals and Clarke Central. The Lady Bulldoggs defeated Gainesville 11-0 last week to close out the regular season region slate. WBHS needed just five innings to record the victory.
