Football: Jackson County’s River Bryant commits to Georgia State

“I’m really happy for River,” Jackson County coach Benji Harrison said. “I know that’s been River’s goal — that he wanted to go play football on the next level. To get an opportunity at Georgia State, at a place like that, it’s a tremendous opportunity for River.”

Bryant is listed at 6’4” 235-lb. by Rivals.com. He played tight end last year but has played mostly at defensive end this year.

Harrison points to Bryant’s intangibles.

“He’s a good football player,” Harrison said. “He’s a smart football player. I think he’ll be a good fit for them.”

Harrison said he could see Bryant playing as either a tight end or defensive end in college.

“We played him at defensive end more out of necessity and what we felt like would help this team most,” Harrison said. “There’s no doubt he can play tight end.”

Harrison believes Bryant will have a good college football career.

“He’ll put on a lot more strength in college, and I think he can be a really good player,” Harrison said.
