EAST JACKSON fell 4-1 Thursday to Morgan County in a loss marked by a few missed opportunities.
The Bulldogs led 3-0 after four innings. East Jackson (6-8-1, 0-5) pushed its lone run across in the top of the sixth, but Morgan County added an insurance score in the bottom half of the inning.
“We got several runners on but just could not push them across in the first inning,” Eagle coach Brent Howell said. “We made a few mistakes but we kept battling. We were unable to get the big hit that we needed to push across some runs.”
Taylor Nix went 2-for-3 with a run. Alx Wheeler (1-for-2) and Emily Turner (1-for-3) also had hits.
Nix threw six innings in picking up the loss. She surrendered seven hits and four runs (only one was earned) and no walks. Nix also struck out two batters.
“Taylor kept us in the game and allowed us to have a shot,” Howell said. “The region tournament is right around the corner so we will continue working.”
