The Commerce boys’ cross country team competed in a meet at Banks County High School last Thursday.
Competing schools in attendance were Jackson County, Banks County, Franklin County, Towns County and Rabun County.
Tiger runner Jose Rodriguez posted a strong finish of 21:35, earning him an eighth place overall finish.
Other runners’ times were: Parker Moon (23:53), Nick Henderson (24:23), DiKerrio Ramsey (24:57), Johnny McAbee (25:12), Orlando Gonzalez (25:46) and Justin Langston (26:18).
Commerce head coach Mark Hale praised his runners’ efforts.
“I thought we ran well,” said Hale. “Our times were improved from last year. We have a chance to be competitive by the end of the year if we continue to improve.”
Hale pointed out that many of his runners are competing in cross country for the first time.
“Jose and Parker were running in their first cross country race ever, as were D. Ramsey and Orlando,” said Hale. “There is a lot of potential in that group of rookies. If the veterans will come on and run to their potential, we will be o.k.”
The Tigers’ next meet will be on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at George Walton Academy.
