Audi Wins Petit Le Mans, Remains Unbeaten In Event

It looked at first like a chink the Audi armor had finally been found, when the defending wining team of Allan McNish, Dindo Capello and Emanuele Pirro fell two laps off the pace at the beginning of the 1,000 mile-10-hour endurance event when McNish crashed the car on the grid formation lap prior to the race.

The Audi team fought back, getting the Scot back on the circuit two laps behind.

But the Audi showed why it's been so dominant in the Road Atlanta event, as McNish returned the team to the lead lap after a stint that ran just under three hours.

Co-drivers Capello and Pirro worked to get the team back into contention. McNish returned to the cockpit for the final stint of the race, and passed leader Peugot's Christian Klien with around 40 minutes left in the event. The Audi team won by 4.512 seconds.

It was the third straight victory for McNish and Capello in the endurance classic.
