When you are building a program, you look for positives in a variety of ways.
The Bethlehem Christian Academy Lady Knights softball team recorded their first victory of 2012 last week by defeating John Hancock Academy 15-1 in four innings. After being on the other end of some one-sided contests this season, BCA found itself in the winner’s circle.
“It was great for our girls,” said Lady Knights coach Jaclyn Sloan. “I was so happy for them to enjoy this win.”
Morgan Martin allowed just one run in four innings of work while striking out nine and walking four.
Maggie Barth had a monster performance at the plate going 4-for-4 with six RBI. Sullie Mabry was 2-for-3 and had a homerun which ended the game.
Courtney Locke was 2-for-3 with four RBI while Sarah Beth Adams was 2-for-4.
The Bethlehem Christian Academy squad is competing on the varsity level in softball for the first time this season. The oldest players are in the 10th grade. Other team members include Taylor Prigmore, Kara Maxwell, Canna Clendenin and Katie Crook.
The Lady Knights returned to the field Monday for a home game against Piedmont Academy, a perennial state playoff team. BCA battled the visiting Lady Cougars for the first five innings trailing just 5-0. Piedmont would explode for 12 runs in the top of the sixth, however, to take a 17-0 win.
Martin worked the first five innings and recorded four strikeouts. Adams had a stolen base in the second inning. Mabry made a strong defensive play in the top of the third inning, throwing a Piedmont runner out at first base.
Martin also had a leadoff single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Lady Knights will travel to Briarwood Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
