The Banks County Middle School Lady Leopards found that elusive win 3-2 this week when they traveled to Malcom Bridge in Bogart.
Malcom Bridge scored first in the third inning with a two run in the park home run. The bats finally came alive for the Leopards in the fifth with a base hit bunt by Allison Smith. Smith was able to steal second, then Jaycie Bowen hit one into right and scored Smith.
Kelyn Parson got on first, Gabby Kennedy then hit a drive to the fence which scored Bowen and Parson and the Lady Leopards took the lead. Other players with hits for the Leopards were Emily Moon, Destiny Baker and Abby Baird. The Lady Leopards defense was solid after gaining the lead.
They were able to get "3 up 3 down" for the rest of the game. Abby Baird had a good game, she allowed only four hits and struck out nine batters. Others players making key plays for the defense were Allison Smith and Taylor Duckett. Duckett got a runner trying to move to third on a weak bunt. Jaycie Bowen was also able to throw out a runner trying to score on a weak bunt.
"Our practice all week has focused on bunting," says Coach Doug Thacker. “We can see our hard work pay off."
Games this week are Tuesday against Oconee Middle School, a double header Friday against Kings Bridge and also a double header on Saturday against Jefferson.
"We are having to make up some games due to rain outs,” Coach Tammy Kennedy said. “All games this were are at home.”
