JACKSON County won its region opener, 4-1, Thursday over Hart County in Hartwell behind a one-hitter from Peyton Sorrells.
Sorrells gave up one run, walked two and struck out six as Jackson County ran its winning streak to three games.
Offensively, Shelton Kendrix went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Madi Pecht was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Alyssa Dasher and Cassie Satterfield both scored runs, and Alyssa Dasher, Satterfield, Andrea Ledford and Mason Garland all added hits.
The Jackson County junior varsity team lost 3-2 prior to the varsity contest Thursday.
Monica Calderon led the junior varsity Panthers at the plate, going 1-for-2 and scoring two runs. Kaley Tanner went 1-for-1 with a double, walk, RBI and a run. Lauren McArter had two walks and scored a run. Shelby Shattles scored a run and added a hit.
Faith Hamby took the loss from the mound. She pitched four innings, giving up five runs (three earned), striking out one and walking two.

The visiting Panthers scored four times in the top of the seventh inning to overtake the host Raiders and secure their fifth win.
Jessica Baker went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Mason Garland was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Madi Pecht and Shelton Kendrix each scored two runs. Victoria Fontana added a run.
Jackson County jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Habersham Central tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning and went up 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth.
Freshman pitcher Shelton Kendrix threw a complete game to earn the win. She surrendered six runs and struck out two.
