A JEFFERSON Dragon volleyball team in the midst of a rebuilding year finds itself 10 games above .500 and ranked no. 5 in Class AA.
Jefferson’s latest win came Thursday on the road at Tallulah Falls, running the Dragons’ record to 14-4.
Jefferson — which lost all but one starter from last year — won the best of five match 25-18, 25-13, 25-18 win in a best-of-five match.
The strong hitting of Sarah Wood, Lindsey Nilsen and Amanda Flowers carried Jefferson in the first game, according to coach Mike Paul. The serving of Mallory Goodenow highlighted the second and third games, Paul said.
Wood led Jefferson with eight kills, and Flowers tallied five kills. Lindsey Nilsen and Daniela Franco both had four kills. Grace Williamson had 11 assists, four aces and one kill, while Paige Watson had nine assists and two aces. Adding to the win were Avery Mixon (two aces, one kill, one assist), Goodenow (two aces), Tristan McGarity (one kill) and Hannah Oliver (one kill).
Jefferson has a huge day of volleyball ahead of it Tuesday when it hosts a four-team Area 6-AA play date with no. 1 ranked Greater Atlanta Christian, no. 3 Wesleyan and Rabun County. Action starts at 5 p.m.
