Madison County (0-1) surrendered early scoring plays of 70 and 54 yards and fell to Oconee County 39-7 at home Friday in Chris Smith's debut as the Red Raiders' head coach.
Staquavous Mack scored Madison County’s lone touchdown in the second quarter on a one-yard, fourth down run, which was set up by a 50-yard quarterback keeper by TJ Skelton. The Red Raiders nearly added a second score as time expired in the second quarter. But a defensive back delivered a vicious hit and knocked the ball away from Garrison Harris on what would have been a touchdown pass. The Red Raiders trailed 25-7 at the half.
Madison County will travel to Franklin County next week. The Lions lost to Stephens County 28-7 Friday.
