Taylor leads the way in recent meet; MCHS runs into tough course at Banks Co.

Taylor finished 25th out of a field of 121.

Also breaking the 20-minute mark was freshman Corey Brakhage, who posted a career-best 19:54. He finished 43rd overall.

Also competing were Jacob Collins (20:17, 54th), Dalton Owenby (22:40, 101st), Chris Dove (22:49, 102nd) and Marcus Bowen (22:56, 103rd).

In the girls’ race, Alexia Supakorndej led Madison County with a time of 28:40, finishing 77th out of 89 runners. Also running for Madison County were Tricia Ebalobo (30:02, 82nd) and Bonnie Walker (31:55, 86th).

The teams returned to action Tuesday at Banks County where they ran into a rather challenging course.

Madison County’s boys finished fourth behind East Jackson, Banks County and Morgan County. The girls didn’t have enough runners to earn a team score. “We had several absences and injuries which hampered our abilities,” head coach Tim Cornett said.

But the coach said he was pleased with several of his runners’ performances. For the boys, Brakhage and Mauro Ortiz both finished just outside the top 10. On the girls’ side, Supakorndej, Ebalobo, and Bethany Keller “ran great races that I’m very proud of,” Cornett said.
