Softball: Rabun Co. rallies for 7-6 win over East Jackson

East Jackson (5-3-1) — which had led 4-0 early on — took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out, two run double from Emily Turner, but the Wildcats answered with their own clutch hits in the final inning. Click here for photos.

Rabun County tied the game on an RBI single and stole home for the go-ahead run.

East Jackson was retired in order in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.

Offensive leaders were Brittany Nolan (2-for-4, double, RBI), Ashlie Wuertley (1-for-3, RBI), Turner (1-for-3, double, two RBIs) and Taylor Nix (1-for-4, two RBIs).

Nix threw seven innings and took the loss. She gave up eight hits, seven runs (only three were earned), walked three and struck out six.

After falling behind 4-0, Rabun County got three runs back in the top of the third and briefly took a 5-4 lead with a two-run homer in the top of the fifth.

The Eagles’ Tuesday region opener with North Oconee was postponed due to rain. The game was to be made up at 5:30 p.m. today (Wednesday), weather permitting.
