JACKSON County (4-9-1) remained unbeaten at home this year, beating Class AAAAAA Habersham Central Monday 4-3.
The Panthers’ region matchup with defending state champion Oconee County the following day was rained out and rescheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Sophomore Jessica Baker threw a complete game in Monday’s win, striking out five batters and allowing three runs (all earned).
Offensive leaders for Jackson County were Andrea Ledford (2-for-3, run, RBI) and Peyton Sorrells (2-for-3, run, RBI). Mason Garland and Shelton Kendrix both picked up RBIs. Vic Fontana, Hattie Sewell and Jordan Evans each added a hit.
Jackson County will now travel to Habersham Central today for a 5:55 p.m. game with the Raiders.
JCCHS loses four of five at weekend tourney
THE JACKSON County Panther softball team (4-9-1) went 1-4 over the weekend at the Buccaneer Bash.
Sophomore pitcher Peyton Sorrells picked up the win in Jackson County’s lone victory of the tournament, an 8-0 win over Cherokee High School Friday.
The Panthers lost to Heritage (8-2), Northwest Whitfield (9-1), Woodland (9-4) and Lassiter (4-0).
Offensive leaders in the tournament were Jessica Baker (4 for 8, .500), Victoria Fontana (7-for-16, .438), Alyssa Dasher (6-for-14, .429) and Madi Pecht (5-for-12, .417). Other players in the tournament driving in runs were Shelton Kendrix (two RBIs), Andrea Ledford (three RBIs), Sorrells (two RBIs) and Hattie Sewell (one RBI).
