Commerce senior Taylor Gary has committed to play golf for the Piedmont College men’s golf team in the 2008-2009 season.
Gary will join head coach Dusty Rogers’ nationally ranked NCAA Division III men’s golf team. The program just completed its fourth year among all Division-III schools.
“Piedmont is a good school,” Gary said. “I looked around at a lot of colleges, but I liked the campus up there. It seems like we’ll have a good chance to do pretty good up there.”
Gary says he plans to major in business at Piedmont. He says the confidence he built up at Commerce hopefully will follow him to Piedmont.
“We have a small school here, but everybody always supported the golf team,” he said. “We did well here, and hopefully I can take the confidence I built up here and take it up there.”
Rogers says Gary is a perfect addition to Piedmont’s men’s golf team.
“He is coming off a very impressive round of 72 in his state tournament, and I believe that he will be an immediate contributor to our men’s team,” he said. “He is the exact model of what this school and this golf program are looking for in a student-athlete. In addition to being a great asset on the golf course, he will make a great addition to our entire campus community.”
Gary says he is looking forward to the shift from a high school setting to a collegiate setting.
“I’m looking forward to being able to meet new people and to taking my game to the next level,” he said. “Hopefully, I’ll be able to compete with some of the top players out there.”
