Madison County students hit the books again Aug. 10. And the bats hit the ball that same day.
Madison County’s varsity softball team will host defending AAA state champion Oconee County at 7 p.m. next Friday at the high school. Red Raider coach Doug Kesler is hoping for a large turnout. All students get in free.
“There’s no football that night,” he said. “It will be the only game in town.”
Kesler said Oconee will provide a great challenge.
“It will be exciting,” he said. “They have a great program and a great coach.”
Madison County will be without last year’s standouts Samantha LaZear and Olivia Duncan, who graduated.
Of course, the Warriors are also without their standout pitcher Geri Ann Glasco, who joins LaZear on the University of Georgia roster this year.
“Thankfully we don’t have to face her, but she had a pretty good supporting cast,” said Kesler.
Madison County is coming off a 30-7 season, which included a trip to Columbus for the Elite 8 tournament.
