Defense to be key for Lady Doggs

Gainesville is coached by former University of Georgia All-American pitcher Michelle Green. Green, who is entering her second season with the Gainesville program, compiled a 60-11 record while at Oconee County High School.

“Pitching is the name of the game and we know Gainesville is being coached by one of the best,” McClure said.

Defense should be a strong area for the Lady Bulldoggs in 2012, their coach said.

“Kylie will pitch well for us and we hope our experience will benefit us,” McClure said. “Our entire team is comprised of juniors and seniors with the exception of a couple of players. Defense was not our strong point a year ago, but we have worked hard on that this summer. We have also worked on building our team chemistry.”

WBHS competed in summer league play throughout the month of June before taking the majority of July off. The team will play a preseason contest against North Gwinnett at 5 p.m.

McClure said the team will be working every day from now to the start of the season.

“We certainly believe we have potential this year,” the coach said. “The players are eager to do well and ready to get things started.”
