Madison County began its road to state by defeating Franklin County last Monday night 20-10 behind a four-hit performance by Colby Smith and three hits from Adam Echols. Caleb Campbell, who also pitched two innings, collected two hits of his own at the plate. Garrett Dowell also pitched two innings followed by one inning of work from Russ Bray in the run-ruled game. Madison County led 14-10 entering the fifth inning where they scored six runs to close the deal.
On Tuesday night, Madison County used a bases-loaded walk to Kale Anderson to force home the winning run in a 13-12 win over host team Rabun County. Madison County led 11-3 entering the sixth inning. Rabun County bounced back and posted nine runs in their half of the sixth to take a 12-11 lead. Madison County later tied and eventually won with the bases loaded walk to Anderson. Russ Bray, Garrett Dowell, Maddux Seagraves, Ben Pethel and Jarrett Moore all had one hit each for Madison County. Colby Smith and Blake Taylor both pitched two innings each and Kale Anderson tossed one inning.
The winning continued on Thursday night in the semi-finals for Madison County. Madison’s all-stars defeated Hart County 13-7 behind two hits each from Adam Echols, Colby Smith, Caleb Campbell, and Maddux Seagraves. Smith and Blake Taylor both shared the pitching duties for Madison County.
Madison County then wrapped up the District 7 tournament with a whipping of Franklin County 21-5 in the championship game. Madison County built on a 10-5 lead entering the sixth inning where they exploded at the plate to earn the 16-point win. Adam Echols, Colby Smith, Caleb Campbell, Russ Bray, and Blake Taylor led the hitting with 3 hits each. Campbell and Garrett Dowell both pitched for Madison County.
Madison County will now travel to Rockmart on Saturday to face the winner of District 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the first round of the state tournament.
