BRODHI Strong will spend much of his July on the road, but the travel will certainly be worth it. The rising sophomore East Jackson quarterback has earned a spot in two national combines this month as his busy summer continues.
Strong, 16, who transferred from Commerce following his freshman year, qualified for the Duel of the Dozens this weekend in Ohio and will also take part in the Prospect Elite Camp at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. July 22-23.
“It’s very exciting,” his father Adam Strong said.
The 6-1, 174-lb. Strong earned a spot at the prestigious Oklahoma camp by finishing in the top 10 percent at a combine in Winder, and then by finishing in the top 10 of 52 quarterbacks (most of all of which were rising sophomores or younger) at a regional combine held in College Park. Players from seven states were represented there.
“There were athletes,” Adam Strong said. “It was unbelievable.”
Strong will now be one of 40 quarterbacks at Norman. Quarterbacks attending this camp are automatically considered two-star recruits, according to Strong’s father. Rivals, Scout and ESPN will all be at the Norman combine.
The combine will include competition, practice, teaching, 7-on-7s, 1-on-1s along with position and football drills against some of the best prep players in the country.
As for the Duel of the Dozens combine, Strong attended a southeast regional combine in Columbia, S.C. recently where he earned a spot to the national event. The Duel of the Dozens is part of the National Football Academy, and Strong has been part of that organization for four years and works with private coaches.
This is all part of an important summer for Strong.
“It’s a very big step from last year,” Strong’s father said.
Strong was Commerce’s starting junior varsity quarterback last fall before transferring. Strong is currently competing with Caleb Hill and Patrick Chastain for East Jackson’s starting quarterback job.
Eagle coach Brian Smith said anytime a player can earn a spot in combines like Strong has done, “it’s a big thing.”
“Both of those camps, the one in Ohio and the one in Oklahoma, are pretty big-time events,” Smith said. “It’s good publicity for him and it’s good for our program.”
The list of colleges Strong would like to attend includes Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Georgia. He hopes to major in engineering.
According to Strong’s father, Brodhi has had communications through email from recruiters and has been invited to camps at Faulkner College, Florida Tech and Appalachian State.
Strong, who has three brothers, is the son of Adam and BaLong Strong.
