he Jefferson Dragons traveled to Blairsville Friday night with an unbeaten record.
That record remained intact when they headed south for home after trouncing Union County Panthers 50-14 Friday night.
Few thought it would be such a lopsided game, as Union entered the game with an unbeaten record as well, having defeated East Jackson the week before.
But someone had to come out with a soiled record, and the Dragons were determined it would not be them.
Next up for the Jefferson powerhouse is another region opponent, the Eagles of Riverside Military Academy.
Riverside comes into Friday night’s match up off their own lopsided victory, having defeated East Jackson 44-6 this past week.
The Eagles have proven themselves to be no slouches when it comes to region play this year. They have a 3-1 record in 8-AA, and a 4-1 record overall.
Going into Friday night’s pairing, Jefferson has a slight edge in the number of points scored this season, with 193 to Riverside’s 190.
The points allowed category is a different story. Jefferson has allowed only 54 points to be scored against them this year, while Riverside has allowed 79.
Kickoff Friday night in Jefferson is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Panther Pounding
Jefferson controlled the game from the word go Friday night, taking a 13-0 lead in the first quarter against Union County.
While the Panthers scrambled to get their wits about them, the Dragons continued to run rings around them, running the score up by another 23 points in the second quarter. Union County, meanwhile, could only answer with a lone touchdown in the second quarter, giving Jefferson a 36-7 spread at the half.
The rout would continue, as the Panthers found themselves locked out of the end zone through most of the second half, breaking in only once during the game.
The Dragons, meanwhile would tack 14 more points on as they blitzed Union County again and again, holding the Panthers to 129 passing yards, and 64 yards rushing.
In the end, Jefferson wracked up 195 rushing yards, and a total of 382 yards on the game. That included a 65-yard kickoff return and a touchdown catch for Tab Martin, one of two touchdowns he scored on the night.
By The Numbers
Quarterback Darius Minor went 11 for 17 against Union County, passing for 488 yards and eight touchdowns on the night.
Zack Crosby had six carries for 15 yards, scoring two touchdowns on the night; Virgil Appleby had 12 carries for 84 yards; Hoytez Damons had one reception for 25 yards, scoring a touchdown; Martin had 19 catches for 127 yards, scoring two touchdowns, and Dillon Greeson had one catch for nine yards, scoring one touchdown.
Defensively, Martin led the dragons with eight solo tackles.
The defense allowed only 153 yards by Union, including 91 rushing and 62 passing on 33 attempts.
They look great this year.
Does anyone out there know the true statistics on our
offense?????
I went to the Union Co game and find it hard to believe
that Minor passed for 488 yards.....I think he is the best
QB in North East Georgia but I don't think he hit 488.
I would like to know what Minor's passing/rushing stat are
as well as our running backs stats......
Thanks for the help....
