Bulldoggs work toward new season

All teams are in the Georgia High School Association designated “dead week” through Saturday. Workouts will resume for the Bulldoggs next Monday.

“Our workouts to this point have been going great,” Wagner said. “We are having a solid group of about 55 varsity players and 20 more who will be freshmen next school year. Overall, the attendance has been great.”

The WBHS varsity program is still in search of an offensive coordinator for the 2012 season. One potential candidate Wagner was interested in hiring did not work out.

“We have a couple of others in mind,” the head coach said. “Hopefully, something can be worked out in July. We will continue to move forward with our preparation.”

The process has been slowed by a lack of a teaching slot for a new coach. Without a job officially offered, Wagner said candidates were hesitant to not remain with their current school.

“It’s nothing personal, it’s just the nature of this business,” the head coach said. “When you have a contract in your hand from one school and don’t have one from another, then it’s hard to not go with the sure thing. You are talking about a coach making a living and being able to provide for his family. I wish we could have settled this a while back but sometimes it takes a little longer to get everything done.”

WBHS is working toward its preseason scrimmage Aug. 17 at South Forsyth and the 2012 season opener at Jackson County Aug. 31.

The Bulldoggs will compete in Region 8-AAAAA this fall.
