What is a franchise running back? A guy that can get you 1,000 yards a season? Or is it something much more than that? Maybe a guy that you can build your team around and can truly change your franchise and sometimes even the league itself?
Now how many franchise running backs are there? The truth is that there just aren’t many up there. It is very difficult to find a running back that can be a sustained running back for several years and can be the face of the franchise.
Sure, there will always be guys that have a few really good seasons, but it’s not every day you come across a true franchise back — one like LaDainian Tomlinson.

The thing that sticks out to me about LT is his ability to both run and catch the ball (heck, he even threw a couple of touchdowns one year). He and Marshall Faulk were very similar in that regard.
