It’s been a busy summer for the Apalachee High School varsity boys basketball team.
Already the Wildcats have recorded 12 victories and are showing signs that the upcoming 2012-2013 season just might be one to be remembered.
AHS ventured to Chattanooga this past weekend and emerged with a 4-3 record.
“We played some good basketball and did some good things,” coach Kevin Morris said.
One of the things which impressed the coach the most was how his team played without one of its top competitors. Cameron Blakley was attending a Top 50 camp but in his absence, other players were able to shine.
“It was good for us to play some games without him,” Morris said. “That let other players figure out some things and for us to see how we will do without him on the court.”
Prior to attending camp in Tennessee, the Wildcats compiled an 8-0 record the previous week in games around the area.
Morris said Qua Cleveland has turned in a strong summer.
“He’s done everything we’ve asked,” the coach said. “He has been working since the season ended to get better and improve his overall game. He is ready to step up his performance at point guard.”
Rakim Peters has also had a strong summer.
“Everyone has done some positive things,” Morris said. “All of our players are figuring out what to do and where to go.”
The Wildcats returned to practice this week and will host several tournaments games next week.
