THE JEFFERSON girls’ soccer team’s breakthrough season came to an end Friday in the state tournament.
The third-seeded Lady Dragons (12-3) lost 7-2 to River Ridge (13-6), Region 7-AA’s no. 2 seed, 7-2 on the road. Jefferson was playing in its first-ever state tournament game.
“The game, of course, didn’t go as well as I wanted it to,” Jefferson coach Todd Parker said.
Parker said his team played a solid first half but ran into some second half problems in the five-goal loss.
“The momentum just kind of quit,” Parker said.
Highlights from the Lady Dragons’ season include the most wins in a single season (12) and the Region 8-AA South subregion championship in addition to becoming the first Jefferson team to play in the state tournament.
