ALTHOUGH the Jefferson girls didn’t boast an individual champion, the Lady Dragons’ collective results placed them near the top of the region.
Jefferson tallied 73 points to finish third behind North Oconee (170) and Hart County (98) in the Thursday-Friday Region 8-AA meet.
Six Lady Dragons and one relay team will advance to this weekend’s sectionals at Lamar County.
Leading that list is distance runner Reese Bowles, who finished third in both the 1,600 meters (5:40.95) and 3,200 meters (12:43.55). Fellow distance runner Sasha Parker also advanced to the sectionals with a fourth-place finish in the 3,200 meters (13:26.01). Others qualifying were Holly Baron (third, 800 meters, 2:33.37), Rebecca Stoudenmire (second, pole vault, 8 feet), Abby Carson (third, pole vault, 8 feet) and Jackie Coleman (fourth, long jump, 15-1).
The 4 x 400 team of Baron, Madison Dills, Rachel Goza and Coleman finished fourth with a time of 4:18.47.
