JACKSON County will have a region champion representing it at the state sectionals.

Yohan Reynolds won the region 300-meter hurdles Friday at Jefferson with a time of 40.28 seconds to advance to this weekend’s state sectionals at Lamar County.

He also finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.72 seconds) to help Jackson County earn a seventh-place finish in 8-AA with 35 points.

Reynolds is one of four Jackson County athletes advancing to the state sectionals.

Others boys qualifying were Layson Giles (third, high jump, 5-10) and Reno Messler (fourth, discus, 124 feet). On the girls’ side, Mariah Spry qualified in two events — the 100 meters (third, 13.09 seconds) and the 200 meters (fourth, 27.51 seconds).

The Jackson County girls finished 10th in 8-AA with 18 points.
