The Mill Creek volleyball team began area play last week with matches against Norcross and North Gwinnett.
The Lady Hawks lost to Norcross in two games by scores of 21-25 and 14-25.
Mill Creek picked up its first area win in the second match, beating North Gwinnett 2-1. The Lady Hawks lost the first game 20-25, but won the second two by scores of 25-18 and 25-23.
Ashley Jackson led the Hawks with 21 assists and three aces. Lauren Rhodes added eleven kills. Mo Simmons had 13 kills, four aces and five blocks for the night.
Gwinnett Co. Tournament
The Mill Creek volleyball team finished the Gwinnett County tournament 4-1 with wins over Berkmar, Greater Atlanta Christian School, Shiloh and Central Gwinnett. The Lady Hawks’ only loss was to Norcross in the semifinals.
The Lady Hawks beat Berkmar in two games, both times by a score of 25-12. Mill Creek beat GACS by scores of 25-17 and 25-19 and won against Shiloh with scores of 25-12 and 25-20.
Ashley Jackson led the Lady Hawks with 50 assists. Lauren Rhodes had 23 kills and Mo Simmons had 22 kills for the first day of the tournament. Lindsay Davis added 15 kills and six aces and Alyson White put in a strong performance at libero.
On Saturday, Mill Creek beat Central Gwinnett in two games by scores of 25-10 and 25-18.
The win over the Knights advanced the Lady Hawks to the semifinals where they faced off against Norcross. The Lady Blue Devils won 2-0, beating Mill Creek by scores of 25-16 and 25-19.

Mill Creek stands at 20-12 overall for the season and 1-1 in the area. The Lady Hawks continue area play next week against Collins Hill and Duluth. This Thursday, Mill Creek will host Berkmar and Parkview in a non-area match. Games begin at 4:55 p.m. in Hoschton.
