Soccer: Jefferson boys’ season ends in region tournament

THE JEFFERSON boys’ soccer team couldn’t get past a tough first-round draw in the region tournament, losing to no. 1 seed East Hall 6-1 Tuesday on the road.

Hugo Tello scored the Dragons’ lone goal.

Jefferson, which was the no. 4 seed out of the South subregion, finishes its season at 5-7.

Tennis: Jefferson teams split matches with Morgan County

JEFFERSON split its Tuesday tennis matches with the girls beating Morgan County 3-2 while the boys lost 3-2.

The Lady Dragons got wins at no. 1 singles from Taylor Bost (6-1, 6-1), at no. 2 singles from Tristan McGarity (7-5, 7-5) and no. 1 doubles from Amanda Burgamy and Chelsea Runkel (6-2, 6-2).

The boys got its victories from Zach Bost at no. 1 singles (6-1, 6-0) and Gage Thompson at no. 2 singles (6-1, 6-1).

Saturday, April 14

Track: Jefferson hosts Relays

JEFFERSON HIGH School hosted the 48th annual Jefferson Relays Saturday and enjoyed a handful of top-three finishes.

Top performances on the boys’ side came from James Howard and Mason Hamrick, who finished second and third respectively in the pole vault with vaults of 12-6 and 12-0.

The Dragons also finished third in the distance medley with a time of 11:55.

The Jefferson girls got second-place finishes from Rebecca Stoudenmire (pole vault, 8-6) and the distance medley relay team (14:10).

Friday, April 13

Soccer: Carreno’s four goals lead Jefferson girls

THE JEFFERSON girls blasted Hart County 8-1 Friday to cap a 10-win regular season behind four goals from Carolyn Carreno.

The top-seeded Lady Dragons (10-1, 6-0) play today (Wednesday) in the region tournament against no. 4 seed East Hall.

In addition to Carreno’s four-goal night, Stephanie Lamm and Amanda Brattain picked up two goals each.

Camila Hernandez, Taylor Cramsey and Reagan Sandy all had assists, as did Brattain and Carreno.

“The ladies played great,” Jefferson coach Todd Parker said. “They kept the ball on Hart’s side most of the game. They had almost 50 shots on goal.”


Thursday, April 12

Golf: Jefferson boys shoot season-best round

LED BY a trio of scorers, the Jefferson boys shot a season-best 165 Thursday to beat Elbert County by seven strokes.

Daniel Kimmel, Blair Cain and Andrew Thompson all shot rounds of 40, and Eli Griffin closed out the scoring with a 45.

“I am so proud of our players,” Jefferson coach Tom Parker said. “They have bought into the idea of setting both personal and team goals. As they achieve them, the continually are reassessing and defining new, appropriate ones. This score for the boy's team was our best all season.

Parker pointed to Griffin’s round of 45, which was his career-low round.

“This is a personal best and is extremely impressive considering this is his first year of playing golf for us and for himself,” Parker said. “The boys have pulled their record up to .500 for the season. We look forward to next week as we will be completing our final preparations for region on April 24 at Traditions.”

Golf: Jefferson girls lose to Elbert Co.

THE JEFFERSON girls’ golf team fell by seven strokes to Elbert County, 80-87, Thursday.

Anna Alexander led the Lady Dragons with a 43, and Hanna Chapman added a 44.

“I am hopeful that the girls are hitting their stride as we approach the final week of the season,” Jefferson coach Tom Parker said. “It has been a roller coaster year for them, but they have fought through some adversity to continually lower their scores.”

Parker praised the efforts of his top two players.

“Anna Alexander has done a great job of working on specific aspects of her game that has really pushed her scores down on a more consistent basis than ever before,” Parker said. “Hanna Chapman did a great job of handling the days off that were due to her traveling with our high school to Europe for over 10 days, as did Andrew Thompson of the boys team.”

Tennis: Jefferson boys sweep Banks Co.

FOLLOWING a long layoff for spring break, the Jefferson boys’ tennis team got back into the win column with a 5-0 win Wednesday over Banks County.

The Dragons got wins from Zach Bost at no. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0; Gage Thompson at no. 2 singles 6-0, 6-1; Justin Harrison at no. 3 singles 6-0, 6-2; Jordan Tyler and Jackson Howard at no. 1 doubles 6-0, 6-2; and Brandon Clabo and Austin Pratt at no. 2 doubles 6-3, 6-4.

Tennis: Jefferson girls pull out win over Banks Co.

THE JEFFERSON girls’ tennis team picked up a 3-2 win over Banks County with two victories in singles play and one doubles win.

Tristan McGarity won at no. 2 singles 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 in a three-set match that went to a tiebreaker, and Abi Muesse prevailed 6-2, 6-1 at no. 3 singles.

In doubles play, Amanda Burgamy and Chelsea Runkel won 6-1, 6-1 at the no. 1 spot.
