Diamond Cats earn much-needed victory

The Wildcats had plenty of firepower at the plate Monday afternoon. Tony Salvaggio was 3-for-4 while Miller, Steven Adair and Austin Miller were all 2-for-4.

With every game becoming more important, AHS is now 3-4 in subregion play, currently in fourth place. Madison County has the tiebreaker on the Wildcats since the Raiders are 4-3.

In order to have a chance to be in the top three and qualify for the postseason, the Diamond Cats will need to defeat Habersham Central Wednesday (today) and to at least earn a split with Winder-Barrow High School next week.

Cavey hopes that will be enough to earn AHS their first postseason appearance.

Prior to Monday, the Diamond Wildcats dropped a competitive 4-1 game at home to Flowery Branch last Wednesday.

Clint Ashe allowed just two earned runs while striking out 11 batters in six innings. Ashe also allowed just two walks while scattering four hits.

Tony Salvaggio worked the seventh inning and struck out the side.

AHS had stepped out of region play last Tuesday and fell 12-6 to Mountain View. The game was a makeup contest from earlier in the season.
