The Dragons (9-7, 5-4) trailed 3-0 after the first inning but rallied for two scores in the top of the seventh before the Blue Devils (14-2, 7-2) recorded the final out.
Jefferson’s Jacob Page threw four and one-third innings and took the loss, surrendering three runs (all earned), five hits and two walks. Matt Bowen came on and worked an inning and two thirds of relief, allowing no runs, one hit and a walk. He struck out two batters.
Elbert County brought seven batters to the plate in the bottom of the first as it pushed across three runs. Two of those scores came via RBI singles from Dillon Johnson and Trenton Allen.
Dragon pitching, however, responded with five shutout innings after that.
Jefferson’s Tyler Cole provided an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning and Kevin Ross added a two-out RBI single two batters later as the Dragons tried to rally. But Elbert County’s Avery White, who pitched a complete game, forced a fly ball out to end the game.
The loss halted a three-game Dragon winning streak. Jefferson hosts Elbert County Monday at 5:55 p.m. to close out the series.
