Golf: Jackson County girls edge Jefferson for county championship
JACKSON COUNTY claimed its first every girls’ golf county championship with a 93-94 win over Jefferson Thursday.
Leading the Lady Panthers were Jordan Garner (46) and Katie Fife (47).
“This is (our) first time in school history to win the championship, and the girls were excited with the results,” Jackson County coach Jeff Algard said. “The team played well and I was excited for them and their performance.
Anna Alexander (43) led the second-place Lady Dragons, while Victoria Mulvey (51) also scored.
“We were very pleased to come in second with our number one player gone with the high school to Europe for a World War 2 trip,” Jefferson coach Tom Parker said. “Anna and Victoria did a great job of coming through for us.”

Track: Hamrick sets personal record at county championships
DEFENDING Class AA state pole vault champion Mason Hamrick recorded a personal-best vault of 13-09 for Jefferson to win that event last Wednesday at the county championships hosted by the Dragons.
Jefferson finished third with 51 points.
Hamrick’s first-place finish was one of three for Jefferson. Others winning were Trae Timmerman (3,200 meters, 10:48) and Carson Newman (discus, 133-0).
Tuesday, March 27
Track: Lady Dragons roll to convincing win in county championships
JEFFERSON racked up 89 points last Tuesday to win the girls’ county championships at East Jackson.
Jaclyn Coleman led the Lady Dragons with two first-place finishes, winning the long jump (14-11.75) and the 400-meter dash (1:01.73).
Also collecting first-place finishes were Maggie Newman (discus, 89-10), Eden Starnes (triple jump, 31-8), Rebecca Stoudenmire (pole vault, 8-6), the 4 x 100 meter relay team (53.17 seconds), Reese Bowles (3,200 meters, 13:05) and the 4 x 400 meter relay team (4:23).
The Lady Dragons finished 40 points ahead of second-place East Jackson (48). Jackson County was third (30).
