Cheerleading: Kibbe signs with Brenau

The Jackson County Comprehensive High School senior signed a competitive cheerleading scholarship with the Gainesville area school Friday. The early success of the program paired with Brenau’s education school were the major factors in Kibbe’s decision.

“I kind of want to major in education, so I like the fact that they have a good education program,” Kibbe said. “And the surroundings are really nice, and the fact that their cheerleading team is brand new, I want to be part of that to see if they can make it all the way. If they do, I want to be part of it.”

Jackson County cheerleading coach Derelle McMenomy pointed to Kibbe’s achievements as a high school cheerleader.

“We are so proud of Danielle,” McMenomy told the crowd on hand at Kibbe’s signing ceremony. “She did an amazing job. She was captain and she was definitely the cream of the crop. We are proud to pass her along to (Brenau) coach (Krista) Britt.”

Brenau is in its inaugural competitive cheerleading season and has already qualified for nationals this month. Britt said Kibbe will be a welcomed addition to next year’s squad.

“I’m excited to have her,” Britt said at the ceremony. “I’m looking very forward to it. She’s got exactly what I’m looking for. She’s tall and has got great tumbling, great leadership.”

Kibbe — who said she works out every day — will continue preparing for college cheerleading at a local Pro Cheer training facility.

“Just keeping in shape,” she said.
