A picture perfect afternoon at W. Clair Harris Stadium saw the Winder-Barrow High School track teams take first place at their own meet last Wednesday.
The Bulldoggs compiled 75 points to defeat Clarke Central (60.5) and Apalachee (30.5) The WBHS boys won 12 of 17 events and Jamonte Riden broke his own record in the long jump at 23-5. The senior also won the 100-meter dash in 11.14 and helped lead the 4x100-meter relay team to a victory in 44.36 seconds.
“I felt good about today,” Riden said after the meet. “The conditions were great for competing. I try to give my best each time out.”
For the Lady Bulldoggs, Delorean Itabiyi and Delaina Sylvain both won two events as WBHS compiling 78 points to outdistance Apalachee who was second with 55.5 Clarke Central was third with 42.5.
Robert Woods continues his impressive spring in the hurdle events winning the 110-meter hurdles in 16.17 and the 300-meter hurdles in 44.79.
Also taking first place for the WBHS boys were:

•4x800-meter relay team of Nelson Lofton, Wright, Alex Martinez and Kolby Estes, 9:07.13
For the Lady Bulldoggs, Itabiyi won the shot put at 30-11 and won the discus competition with a mark of 105-6.
Apalachee High School’s Carlee Brodee was second in the shot put at 105-3 and held the lead until Itabiyi’s final attempt. Brodee was runner-up in the long jump (14-6.5) while teammate Shannon McConnell was third at 13-7.
Sylvain won the 100-meter dash for the WBHS girls in 12.78 while Amanda Cope took first in the 800-meter run (2:36.25).

Cope was runner-up in the 400-meter run. She won her heat in 1:06.86 but was second overall to Clarke Central’s Danielle Maya (1:06.01). The WBHS coaches are using Cope in different events to try and take full advantage of her running ability.
For the AHS boys, Jeremy Lotts tied for first in the 200-meter dash when his time equaled that of Clarke Central’s Cameron Johnson. The two ran in different heats.
Lotts was second in the 100-meter dash in 11.34.
Jermaine Smith was first in the triple jump with a mark of 40-9. Teammate Tay Sorrells was runner-up in the event at 39-8.
AHS coach Stan Cox said school records were broken in the boys and girls 4x800-meter relays.
The Lady Wildcat relay team of Brittany Cochrane, McConnell, Tamaica Moore and Kimberly Zahm was second in the 4x800 in 11:47.68 with the boys team of Jared Burney, Johnathan Carranza, Eric Dotson and Nick Zvirbulis taking second in 9:11.56.
