Soccer: EJCHS girls down Elbert Co. 4-0
THE EAST Jackson girls’ soccer team snapped a two-game losing skid Friday with a 4-0 subregion win over Elbert County.
“The defense played a strong game,” East Jackson coach Randy Hill said.
Offensively, Cassidy Steele, Sheena McEachin, Hayleigh Smith and Skyler Cozzens each scored goals.
Soccer: EJCHS boys notch 1-0 win
EAST JACKSON notched a first-half goal from Nick Alvarado and the Eagles stepped up defensively in a 1-0 win over Elbert County Friday.
The goal came after about 20 minutes with a corner placed into the box that fell to Ernesto Alarcon, who played the ball back for a nice left-footed strike from Alvarado.
Coach Chris Cooley said Elbert County played a defensive game, often packing eight players into the back third of the field and leaving two strikers forward for counter-attacking runs.
“We had plenty of pressure and dominated the midfield, but our priority was to keep possession and the lead rather than push forward for more goals,” he said. “Our defense and midfield did a good job of neutralizing long balls and keeping the pressure on Elbert. There were opportunities to score for both teams, and while we could have made more goals we were happy enough with the 1-0 shutout.”
