Madison Co. tennis teams take third at Granger Invit.

Both teams won three matches and lost one. All matches were decided by a 3-2 score. The guys improved to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in the region, while the girls now stand at 8-3, 4-1.

“From the scores you can see that the competition was very good again this year at the tournament,” said Red Raider coach Keith Strickland.
Several netters were undefeated in the tournament. They included the doubles teams of Adrienne Fitzpatrick and Kaylee Bates and Abby Morgan and Savannah Mainland, as well as Ben Strickland in guys’ singles action.

“Trey Morris and Audra Minish both had a terrific tournament, going 3-1 each,” said Strickland.

The coach noted that Minish “played her most confident tennis this season.”

“In the 3/4 playoff, we were tied at 2 matches all and she was down a set,” said Strickland. “When I went up to her, I told her that she was the deciding match. I wouldn’t normally say that to the player, but I could tell from Audra’s demeanor that she was determined, just as she had been in her previous three matches to give it her all. She stormed back to take the second set with conviction at 6-2 and then played smart in the tiebreak to give us the match.”

Strickland said the Granger Invitational will help his teams the remainder of the season.

“This type of play should give us the boost we need to play well as we begin the second leg of our sub-region schedule,” said Strickland.
