Golf: Whitley places second, Panthers finish sixth at Big Red Shootout

LED BY Thomas Whitley’s runner-up finish, the Jackson County boys’ golf team finished sixth at Monday’s Big Red Shootout in Gainesville with 123 points in a modified Stableford format.

Panther coach Warren Standridge called his team’s showing “awesome.”

“It was a super day for us with a very tough field,” he said.

In the modified Stableford format, points instead of strokes were used. Jackson County would have shot a 317 in a conventional tournament.

Whitley finished second with 41 points, which would have equated to a score of 73. York Delloyd added 31 points and a 78 score.

Golf: Panthers finish middle-of-the-pack at Warrior Invitational

IN WHAT Jackson County coach Warren Standridge described as “not our best effort,” the Panthers golf team shot a 337 Saturday to finish 15th out of 31 teams at the Warrior Invitational at Mossy Creek Golf Course.

Jared Scott led Jackson County in the 18-hole event with a 79.

“I was hoping for a (team score of) 325, but with the wind and Bermuda greens we just did not have a good day,” Standridge said. “No excuses we were just a little off.”

Soccer: Seventh-ranked Lady Panthers beat Lakeview

KATIE Parker, Maddie Newton and Sydney Baird all scored goals Friday as seventh-ranked Jackson County downed Lakeview Academy 3-2 Friday.

Lady Panther coach Joe Ridgway pointed to the play of Baird.

“Sydney Baird had an amazing game for us in the midfield,” he said. “She is becoming one of the top midfielders in the Conference with her dynamic play and improved field vision. We are looking for her to be a big part of our success moving forward.”

Golf: Jackson County’s Whitley ties his own record

JACKSON COUNTY’S Thomas Whitley shot another 34 Wednesday — tying the school record he set March 14 — as the Panthers (10-1) beat Apalachee 164-170.

Jared Scott added a 42.

The Panthers have 18-hole tournaments Saturday and Monday and the county championships Tuesday.

Golf: JCCHS girls fall by eight strokes

THE JACKSON County girls’ golf team fell 101-109 to Apalachee Wednesday. Jordan Garner shot a 52 and Abby Davidson added a 57.
