Jefferson ready to defend rank this Friday

The Jefferson Dragons added another notch to their belt after Friday night’s win over Oglethorpe County.

While the homecoming celebration may be over for the Dragons, the football season is far from ending.

Jefferson has pretty much chewed up everyone the AA region can throw at them so far, and will look to continue the undefeated streak this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. as the Dragons face Union County on the road.

Union County is also undefeated coming into Friday’s game and as of Tuesday are ranked the number two school in region 8-AA, with Jefferson sitting in the number one spot.

Side-by-side the two appear evenly matched. Union averages 37 points per game while Jefferson averages 36. The Dragons have only allowed 40 points while Union has allowed 62. Union is currently three points ahead of Jefferson scoring 146 total points in four games to the Dragons’ 143 total points in four games.

In two previous encounters between the schools, Jefferson leads 2-0 winning 26-19 in 2002 and 28-7 in 2003.
Friday’s game will be a show for the fans as the top two schools in 8-AA fight to secure the top seat for next week.
