The Banks County High School boys tennis team played on the road in Fannin County last Tuesday and took a loss 3-2 for the second region match of the season. The girls team won 5-0 in Fannin County.
The highlights of the match were the play of junior Jake Schaefer and senior Jacob Blalock earning both of the wins for Banks County.
"It was really tough suffering our first loss of the season and it being a region match," said Coach Jeff Ravencraft.
In singles action, number one Jake Schaefer defeated Timothy O'Conner 6-3,6-2. Number two Paul Coughlin lost to Austin Kuhr 4-6, 6-2, 4-6. Number three Jacob Blalock defeated Brandon Minter 6-0,6-0.
In doubles action, number one Bobby Nguyen and Chris Willis lost to Jason Burnett and Caleb Owenby 1-6, 7-5, 4-6. Number two Justin Yang and Jake Mills lost to David Haight and Chase Keilman 3-6, 6-4, 3-6.
" I think it is very important to see how our boys respond to this loss as we have the bulk of our season coming up these next two weeks. We play seven matches in the next ten days," said Ravencraft.
In singles action for the girls, number one Macy Milford defeated Cayley Bryant 6-1, 6-1, number two Lauren Carter defeated Megan Little 6-0, 6-1, and number three Kaelen Standridge defeated Hanna Bryant 7-5, 6-2.
In doubles action, number one Anna Gailey and Haley Hill defeated Brittany Galloway and Emily Kaylor 6-1, 6-0 and number two Leia Rylee and Taylor Mullins defeated Anna Birchmore and Halle Dean 6-0, 6-0.
"The girls are continuing to do a magnificent job! The support of the team for their teammates is also fantastic," said Coach Lisa Thomas.
This week, BCHS will be playing at Habersham on March 19, playing at home against East Hall on March 20 and playing at Jefferson on March 22. The upcoming week the Leopards will play at home against East Jackson on March 26, at Dawson County on March 27, at home against Habersham on March 28, and at home against Hart County on March 29.
