Tuesday, March 20
THE JEFFERSON girls’ tennis team shut out Lakeview 5-0 Tuesday on the road in non-region action.
The Lady Dragons got wins at no. 1 singles from Taylor Bost (6-0, 6-2), at no. 2 singles from Abi Muesse (2-6, 6-4, 6-4), at no. 3 singles from Olivia Yates (5-7, 6-3, 10-6), at no. 1 doubles from Amanda Burgamy and Chelsea Runkel (6-0, 6-1) and Charley Beatty and Savannah Snapp (6-2, 6-3).
The Jefferson boys lost 4-1 with its only win coming at no. 1 singles from Gage Thompson when his opponent had to withdraw.
Monday, March 19
Golf: Jefferson’s Kimmel fires 36 to earn low medalist honors
DESPITE losing 170-187 Monday, the Jefferson golf team boasted the low medalist in its match against Buford with sophomore Daniel Kimmel shooting a 36.
Blair Cain added a 43, followed by Andrew Thompson (47) and Eli Griffin (61).
Golf: Jefferson girls lose by 11 strokes
THE JEFFERSON girls’ golf team lost 91-102 Monday against Buford.
Hanna Chapman led the Lady Dragons with a 47. Anna Alexander added a 55.
“Hanna is starting to be more consistent with her scores,” Jefferson coach Tom Parker said.
Soccer: JHS boys’ snap skid, win 3-1
THE JEFFERSON boys’ soccer team snapped a four-game losing skid Monday with a 3-1 victory over Banks County.
The Dragons got two goals from Kevin Perez and one from Bryan Thao. Chandler Schlutow and Dakota Thompson had assists.
The three goals tie Jefferson’s season high for the year as the Dragons also broke out of a scoring slump.
“We played a great first half,” coach Jacob Marble said. “I was glad to see everyone executing but also finishing by scoring some goals. We have been able to pass the ball effectively but have struggled scoring goals so that was nice.”
Saturday, March 17
Track: Newman wins discus at GAC, Dragons take eighth
CARSON Newman grabbed first in the discus at Saturday’s Greater Atlanta Christian Invitational to highlight Jefferson’s ninth-place showing at the event.
Newman threw a 139-2 to edge the field by just over two inches. He also ran a 11.92 in the 100 meters to finish 10th.
Coach Chad Cheatham also pointed to the performances of Austin McCallister (22nd, 200 meters, 25.85 seconds), James Howard (12th, long jump, 18-4; fourth, pole vault, 11-6), Josh Reid (eighth, 800 meters, 2:09), Trae Timmerman (fifth, 1,600 meters, 4:48), Cain Lorenzo (17th, 1,600 meters, 5:03; eighth, 3,200 meters, 10:55), Austin Patterson (fifth, discus, 122-3), Caleb Moore (21st, long jump, 16-6) and the 4 x 100 team of Newman, Tyler Bowen, Kevin Hankinson and Austin McCallister (12th, 48.11).

THE JEFFERSON girls’ track team finished fifth in a 15-team field at Saturday’s Greater Atlanta Christian Invitational.
Coach Chad Cheatham pointed to the performances of Blaine Townsend (ninth, 100 meters, 14.06 seconds), Jaclyn Coleman (fourth, 400 meters, 63.56 seconds), Holly Baron (ninth, 800 meters, 2:41), Chandler Bragg (12th, 800 meters, 2:47), Reese Bowles (seventh, 1,600 meters, 5:48; third, 3,200 meters, 12:22), Sasha Parker (13th, 1,600 meters, 6:22; 10th, 3,200 meters, 13:28), Abby Carson (fourth, 100 meter hurdles, 18.04 seconds), Savanna Holland (fifth, 100 meter hurdles, 18.26 seconds), Kelli Crawford (eighth, 300 meter hurdles, 53.28 seconds), the 4 x 100 team of Eden Starnes, Rachel Goza, Townsend and Coleman (fifth, 53.52 seconds), the 4 x 400 team of Baron, Goza, Dills and Coleman (fourth, 4:23), Magan Greer (100 meters, 14.66), Jerilyn Williamson (open 400 meters, 67.8 seconds) and Madison Dills (4 x 400 split of 65.21 seconds).

Golf: Jefferson golf teams record wins over East Jackson
BOTH the Jefferson High School golf teams recorded wins Thursday over East Jackson at Double Oaks Golf Club.
Anna Alexander shot a 40 to lead Jefferson to an 84-124 win over the Lady Eagles. Hannah Chapman added a 44. Victoria Mulvey also played, shooting a 53.
On the boys’ side, Daniel Kimmel fired a 40 to lead Jefferson to a 186-203 win.

“We were really excited about the play of Junior Anna Alexander and Sophomore Daniel Kimmel,” Jefferson coach Tom Parker said. “The last couple of matches the team has lowered its individual and overall scores tremendously. Hopefully, we can continue to play and score well.”

THE JEFFERSON boys’ tennis team lost to Elbert County 4-1 again Thursday, getting its lone victory from the no. 1 doubles duo of Austin Pratt and Brandon Clabo, which won 1-6, 6-4, 10-6.
The Dragons lost at no. 1 singles with Jordan Tyler (5-7, 2-6), no. 2 singles with Jackson Howard (0-6, 0-6), no. 3 singles with Justin Harrison (0-6, 0-6) and no. 2 doubles with Nathaniel Trawick and Kody McDonald (0-6, 5-7).
Tennis: Elbert Co. avenges loss to Jefferson girls
THE JEFFERSON girls’ tennis team fell to Elbert County 3-2 a day after beating the Lady Blue Devils by that same score.
Jefferson got its wins at no. 1 singles from Taylor Bost (6-2, 6-0) and at no. 2 doubles from Charley Beatty and Olivia Yates (4-6, 6-2, 10-7). The Lady Dragons lost at no. 2 singles with Abi Muesse (6-4, 6-7, 8-10), no. 3 singles with Grace Main (1-6, 0-6) and no. 1 doubles with Amanda Burgamy and Chelsea Runkel (6-3, 4-6, 13-15).

JEFFERSON’s girls picked up a much-needed subregion tennis win with a 3-2 victory over Elbert County Wednesday.
The Lady Dragons got wins at no. 1 singles with Taylor Bost (6-1, 6-3) and swept doubles play. Amanda Burgamy and Chelsea Runkel won at no. 1 doubles (6-0, 5-7, 7-5) and Charley Beatty and Olivia Yates at no. 2 doubles (6-0, 6-4).
Abi Muesse lost at no. 2 singles (3-6, 1-6) and Grace Main at no. 3 singles (3-6, 1-6).

Jefferson lost at no. 2 singles with Jordan Tyler (4-6, 2-6), no. 3 singles with Jackson Howard (1-6, 3-6), no. 1 doubles with Austin Pratt and Brandon Clabo (6-1, 6-2) and no. 2 doubles with Justin Harrison and Nathaniel Trawick (3-6, 6-4, 5-7).
