Tennis Doggs enjoy fast start to season

Tyler Tippens had to rally from a first set deficit at No. 2 singles for a 7-5 win. Tippens then took a 6-3 win in the second set against Clarke Central’s Camden Adams.

Colby Woodall completed the singles sweep for WBHS with a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Tomislan Zabcic-Matic.

In doubles play last week, the Bulldoggs got a win at No. 1 play from Chris Woodall and John Arnold against Christian Saupe and Tristen Laptez 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (5).

Austin Pirkle and Sahmir Short played well at No. 2 doubles for the Bulldoggs but dropped a 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 match to William Kissane and Henry Siebentritt.

Going into this week’s action, WBHS has defeated Loganville 5-0, Jackson County 4-1, Johnson High School 4-1 and Clarke Central 4-1. The lone setback was to Class 5A Dublin 4-1.

“Our goal is to return to the state tournament this year, but we’ll have to go through Madison County and Flowery Branch to do so,” Hon said. “Those are the teams that gave us trouble last year.”
