Diamond Cats ready to return to action

The Wildcats were scheduled to face Archer in a rematch Wednesday (today) on the road at 5:45 p.m. The team will then play at North Forsyth Saturday at 1 p.m.

“You always look to play as much as you can at this point in the season,” Cavey said. “We faced Archer’s ace last week and couldn’t get much going. We mainly couldn’t put anything together back-to-back.”

Pitching-wise, AHS only allowed two earned runs and the Wildcats played well defensively, Cavey said.

Facing quality pitching will benefit the team down the road as well. In last week’s game, Archer’s Alexander Martin had a strong outing.

“It was good for our batters to see someone like that,” Cavey said.

A strong area for the Wildcats this season is its deep pitching staff. Cavey is trying to get seven pitchers plenty of work before region begins.

Tyler Starnes, Clint Ashe, Mason Webb and Tony Salvaggio each saw time on the pitcher’s mound last Wednesday.

“We haven’t used a starter more than three innings,” Cavey said. “We are trying to get everyone ready for region. Everyone is doing well. We have an earned run average of 2.00. We have allowed some unearned runs. We need more games right now to get more pitching in.”
