ANDY Nicolas and Micah Carpenter both went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs as Jefferson (3-3) beat Lumpkin County 8-3 Monday at home to snap a three-game skid.
The Dragons scored eight unanswered runs in the win — all of which came with two outs — in getting back to the .500 mark. Jefferson faces the Indians (2-2) Wednesday at 5:55 p.m. in Dahlonega.
The Dragons rallied from an early 3-0 deficit by tying the game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Jefferson got its first two scores with a two-run double from Carpenter, followed by a game-tying RBI single from Austin Thompson.
The Dragons pushed ahead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI from Alex Gaba. Jefferson then added four insurance scores in the bottom of the sixth. Ryan Johnson and Max Ford delivered RBI singles in the inning, and Nicolas had a two-run double.
Jacob Page relieved Jefferson starter Max Ford and worked three scoreless innings for the win, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out three.
Lumpkin County struck for three runs against Ford in four innings, none of which were earned. Ford allowed three hits and three walks while striking out six.
Jefferson finished with six hits and four errors.
The Dragons were coming off a 7-0 road loss to Gainesville Friday in which they managed only four hits. The Red Elephants’ Micheal Gettys and Shad Petree combined for the shutout.
The teams were scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Gainesville struck for two runs. The Red Elephants added four more in the fifth and another in the sixth.
