The Banks County Middle School Leopards took to the diamond in their season opener and walked off victorious with an 11-1 win over Habersham County.
In spite of a few scattered showers throughout the game, the Leopards put together a collective team effort both in the field and at the plate. Dylan Patrick pitched three strong innings recording four strikeouts while only surrendering one run.
Taylor Boisclair closed out the final two innings of the game striking out four while failing to surrender a hit. A defensive highlight for the Leopards came early in the game when Cole Jones snared a sharply hit line drive to begin a triple play that was capped off by Griffin Goodwin.
At the plate, the Leopards got off to a fast start with Dylan Patrick helping his on cause by recording a triple and then advancing to home on an errant Habersham throw. Alban Gilstrap and Cole Jones also drove in big runs as the Leopards ended the game in six innings.
"This was a great team effort and a good momentum builder as the team heads into their second week and faces two tough games with Madison County and Jefferson," said Coach Shane Wilburn.

So extremely proud of all of these boys. They all have came a long way from winning the first game in about 2 years for the school. It is great seeing all the high fives from the teammates and coaches when the pitching is on, plays are being made and the hits are heading towards the fence. Keep it going boys!!
